My Fall And Winter Hand Care Routine

I have a confession to make! During the Fall and Winter, I suffer from horribly dry hands, cuticles, and painful hangnails. Once the temperature dips into the 50s my hands get chapped and my cuticles dry and began to hurt. It becomes uncomfortable to type, it’s uncomfortable to write even washing dishes is painful. Now that we following Covid-19 handwashing precautions my hands are even dryer! …I’m confused…were people not washing their hands regularly before?

I have had the same issue for years. I’m grown, I work, I should be able to figure this out.  I’ve done a little research and here is what the infamous “They” say.

Start with a great manicure! Not sure if I will do it myself or go to the salon. Covid got me nervous!!!  During the colder months, the polish can protect your nails from drying out. It creates a barrier so no moisture can escape from your nail bed…sounds crazy but it’s true.   Polish prevents dryness, so pick a color and apply!

This set could be a good starting place.

Hydration, I talk about this a lot I know. But keeping your hands and nails hydrated is critical. If your hands get wet, dry them moisturize them, and oil your cuticles while you’re at it. It’s three o’clock and you need a break… Wash your hands, lotion your hands then oil your cuticles. It’s 8 pm and you just finished washing dishes, wash your hands lotion your hands, then oil your cuticles. It’s 11 pm and your about to go to sleep…wash your hands lotion your hands then oil your cuticles. Place a bottle of lotion near the sink in your kitchen and your bathroom. Keep a bottle of lotion and cuticle oil in your desk or purse.

I am currently using Essie Apricot Cuticle Oil.

I carry it in a ziplock snack bag in my purse but will be using refillable pens in the future.

Wear gloves in the cold!…make sure you put them on before you leave the house. Try not to expose your hands to the cold weather, keep your hands warm and covered…and moisturized. Wear rubber gloves if your hands are going to be in water or to protect your hands for your cleaning products. I’m even considering a pair of moisturizing gloves for a weekly treatment.

Here is a pair of winter gloves that might work. According to the reviews these gloves are warm and run on a little large.

Moisturizing gloves may be the key for me this fall and winter, these gloves come with a set of moisturizing socks!
