FALL SKINCARE GOALS

September is National Skin Care Awareness Month! While we should savor the last few warm days, let’s keep in mind that cooler weather is coming.  This means a skincare revamp is more than just a good idea it is necessary.

If you haven’t had your yearly visit with the dermatologist, schedule it your skin is your largest organ. The doctor will look for anything out of the ordinary and can make skincare recommendations. After that, a monthly self-check is a good idea. Set an alarm if you have to, just do it. FYI: People of color need a yearly mole check too!

Swap your lightweight moisturizer for something with a bit more heft. I enjoy Vanicream, it works well and is gluten-free, and formulated for sensitive skin. In the past, I have used CeraVe and have had good results, but I am looking for something vegan and gluten-free currently and open to suggestions.

No matter the season Sunscreen is always important. Yes, even in the winter. I’m still working through some half-used bottles and samples from my Dermatologist.  If you don’t currently use a sunscreen take a look at the travel/sample section in the drugstore or at your local beauty purveyor. Try out a few brands, make your choice and apply EVERY DAY!!!

You may find you need to replace your body lotion for a body butter to keep your skin moisturized once the temperature starts to drop. Dry body skin can be aggravating so stay ahead of winter itch if you can. I’m extra, so I use a body lotion, body butter, and oil during the winter. Life is to short to be ashy and I’m using the fall and winter to work on cellulite goals. Don’t worry there will be a blog post about it.

Exfoliation is still important, in the winter I exfoliate once a week. I like a chemical exfoliant for my face and use a scrub for my body. Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Pads are amazing, and a little pricey.  A more budget-friendly price is the Ordinary Glycolic Toner, I use both. For the body, I enjoy and sugar scrub although lately, a coffee scrub has made it into the rotation.

As the weather cools and the heat is turned on the air gets dry. A humidifier can be your best friend. They add much-needed moisture to the air and some can diffuse essential oils. I may invest in a small one for work the heat is on there too.

Of course, continue to during water, drink it like it’s your job. Eat as well as you can, exercise, and get enough rest it all shows in your skin. How do you keep your skin in shape when the weather cools, let us know in the comments below.
